Myrsonas Estuary

Myrsonas Estuary of is one of Ikaria’s largest rivers and Archipelagos is currently conducting studies into the biodiversity of it's flora and fauna. Like all Ikarian rivers, Myrsonas has a very characteristic water regime, highly dependant on rainfalls, and as a consequence these streams only reach the sea from the end of autumn to the beginning of summer. During the winter months the eels (Anguilla anguilla) that have spent from 6 to 20 years in the stream, swim to the sea and, lead by a strong instinct, migrate back to the Sargasso Sea (in the Atlantic Ocean, east of the USA) where they breed.
